CECS top-notch supervisors notch up wins

Several CECS academic staff were recognised at the first Student Awards for Top Supervisors awarded by the Dean of Students, Professor Penny Oakes. A celebratory lunch was held to mark the awards at University House earlier this month. Amongst the winners of the awards were Professor Andres Cuevas, Dr Henry Gardner, Professor Rod Kennedy, Dr Roland Goecke, and Dr Dan MacDonald who were all nominated by graduate coursework and graduate research students that submitted brief essays on why their supervisors deserved to be acknowledged and recognised.

Students were asked to tell the University why their supervisors were engaging, inspirational, motivational, a true mentor or just plain tops!

"It's gratifying that CECS was held up, at the awards, as a 'particularly fine example' of good higher degree by research student supervision," said Professor Chris Baker, Dean of the College.

"We can all bask in the reflected glory of the academic and administrative staff teamwork in HDR that works so hard to create an exceptional environment for our students in terms of their learning experience, and their pastoral care," said Professor Baker.
