Cadets commence

The program complements the ICT apprenticeship program which places students into different Commonwealth agencies. Mr Dale has championed both programs that aim to recruit skilled ICT staff into the public sector.
"Programs like this create opportunities for people to enter the Australian Public Service workforce with a recognised qualification, armed with valuable work experience, and with bright career prospects ahead of them," said Mr Dale."I have a personal interest in Cadetships because my own ICT career in the public sector began as an APS Cadet many years ago, and this has since opened many doors for me," he said.
"I still keep in touch with fellow cadets and the network has proven invaluable over the years."
Currently students must commit to a minimum of 18 months in the program to a maximum of 3 years, and are employed at the APS Level 2. They are carefully matched to agencies depending upon their level of skill, interest and motivation. Mentoring is an important part of the program.
Cody Christopher, a second year Bachelor of Computer Science (Honours) student has been placed with the Department of Defence.
"I joined the program primarily so that I could gain some professional experience in my field while studying my undergraduate degree. I think it is a fantastic idea to get a head-start and get some industry experience before I get out into the workforce," he said.
"It's also a great opportunity to network and develop important business and workplace relation skills - and I'll get paid for it! I can't see a downside and I'm really looking forward to the program."
Other CECS students in the program include:
Gavin ErpicVinh Ngo-Da
Filip Filiposki
Aazim Ibrahim
Michael Karas
