Robocup Junior Competition

Thursday, 2 August, 2007: The ANU College of Engineering & Computer Science again hosted the ACT RoboCup Junior competition. ANU has been involved in Junior Robocup which is a project-oriented educational initiative that sponsors local, regional and international robotic events for young students, for several years. Designed to introduce RoboCup to primary and secondary school children, the focus is on education, and the competition encourages students to think about, and to use, their budding engineering and IT skills.

RoboCup Junior has been developed with three levels of increasing complexity where primary and secondary students can choose to take up the challenge at their own skill and interest level. The three levels are: Dance, Rescue and Soccer.

A record 59 teams from schools in the ACT and Queanbeyan took part in the competition this year. The winners are: Canberra Girls Grammar School, Canberra Grammar School, Covenant College and MacKillop College.

"Congratulations to the winning teams," said Sammantha Bronar, Marketing Coordinator at the College.

"I'd like to thank members of the organising committee that worked tirelessly leading up to the event, as well as on the day, and also our engineering and computing students who helped out on competition day. We all enjoyed it and are looking forward to next year!"

Student volunteers included:

Nathan Brewer, Rebecca Dengate, Adriano Di Pietro, Sam Gilligan, Garima Samvedi and Sam Wilson.
