Engineering graduate in the news

Greg Davies, a graduate of the Department of Engineering in the ANU College of Engineering and Computer Science, was awarded both a University Medal and the Dean's Prize in Engineering at two ceremonies on Friday 13 July.

At the beginning of this year Greg started work with one of Australia's biggest companies, BHP Billiton, and is mostly based in Perth, Western Australia. Here he divides his time between the oil rigs, the office, and also Victorian gas plants where he provides technical support.

"It is a great experience and with a company like this you get a lot of experience and responsibility very early on," he said.

Engineers are in big demand in Australia and overseas and the current skills shortage means that the world really is an engineering graduate's oyster!

The full story of Greg's journey from the Canberra College to ANU to BHP Billiton was featured in The Canberra Times on 14 July 2007: 'Have engineering degree, will travel' by Education Reporter, Emma Macdonald.
